Youth is a digital art series inspired by the timeless beauty of the Dutch Old Masters. Still life paintings reminiscent of Rachel Ruysch and Jan Davidsz de Heem. The mesmerizing compositions of extremely slow motion filmed fluttering butterflies that move gracefully across the canvas filled with flowers depicts the memories of childhood. A time of wonder, innocence and transformation, where the world unfolds like a large canvas. Every discovery is a revelation, every moment a treasure trove of memories waiting to be discovered. These formative years imprint themselves on the tapestry of our existence, leaving behind a mosaic of experiences that shape our perceptions, aspirations and understanding of the world. Technique In the Youth project, a captivating blend of advanced film techniques brings the delicate beauty of butterflies and flowers to life with breathtaking clarity and detail. The butterflies are filmed using a high-speed Phantom camera at an astounding 2000 frames per second (FPS), a technique that magnifies every intricate detail and subtle movement as if time itself has paused. This approach captures the ethereal grace of the butterflies, allowing viewers to observe their fluttering wings and delicate maneuvers in stunning slow motion. Complementing this, the vibrant compositions of flowers, primarily featuring roses and peonies, are filmed using an Arri Alexa camera at 50 FPS. This setup emphasizes the rich textures and vivid colors of the floral arrangements. By merging these two distinct sets of imagery, the project creates a harmonious visual experience that highlights the interplay between the fragility of butterflies and the lush beauty of flowers, all brought together through the meticulous application of high-speed and high-resolution cinematography. 00:06:00‘’ | Endless loop (2160 x 3840 pixels) Series of 3 Executed in 2024.
